Today in our American society we tend to put a high focus on money as a means to our wellbeing because everything relates around our Capitalistic system. This has lead many adults to begin to develop self esteem issues as they feel worthless when they do not have financial security or are unable to achieve their financial goals and thus have to stress. By stressing out over one’s financial situation adults have developed depression as a result and the lack of financial literacy has been linked to bodily pains and even more harmful health behaviors.
After reading “ Financial stress and Wellness: Understanding the problem”, it was found that the reason why individuals had an issue with money was due to their internal relationship with money. One’s background, understanding of money, and reasoning to obtain money were crucial factors as for why an individual would be able to be successful with their financial wellness. However this is problematic when you analyze it because not everyone has the same background nor relationship with money. In the west we are a heavily financial dominant community and those that come from cultural backgrounds that don’t see the importance of saving money like Chinese and various Asian cultures do tend to over spend and lack the financial literacy to grow wealth or have it sustainable enough to obtain freedom.
Therefore it is important for one to understand their relationship with money and then obtain financial literacy that can help them understand that relationship better in order to assist them in reaching their financial goals and wellness. Linked to this post are examples and tips of ways to gain an understanding of financial literacy while at the same time saving money and assisting you in finding your why or value for financial wellness.
